CIRCLEWOOD
VISION AND LEARNING TRIP
AUGUST 17-18
There are an increasing number of Christians who want to incorporate care for the earth into their faith but are unsure of how to do it or what it might look like. Circlewood has put together a two-day excursion to show participants how creative earth care is being practiced in our region and introduce them to the people who are making it happen. The trip includes:
Cloud Mountain Farm – a non-profit in Bellingham, WA that trains the next generation of farmers. We will see the farm and meet Danielle Humphreys, a Christian learning to farm through Cloud Mountain’s internship program.
The Brooksdale Environmental Center– an 18-acre living laboratory in Surrey, BC comprised of forests, a threatened river system, organic gardens, and heritage houses where critical environmental issues are researched, addressed, and solved. We will tour the center and meet the Christian workers, volunteers, and interns who make Brooksdale a creative place of transformation.
Camano Island Coffee Roasters– a for-profit business that creates positive social change and promotes environmental responsibility (and makes great coffee). We will have a tour and hear from CICR’s founder, Jeff Ericson.
Paradise Parking Lots Community Garden– a project in Kent that has converted an acre of paved parking lot into 50 community garden plots for refugees. We will meet the project director, Tahmina Martelly, and learn how this amazing project came together.
Along the way we will have good conversation with some new friends, unpack what we are seeing and learning, and explore ways that we can make care for the earth a central part of our faith.
